Severstal-Vtorchermet to increase scrap iron collection and processing by 150 thousand tons per year

In 2013, Severstal-Vtorchermet (a part of the division Severstal Russian Steel) will mount press shear at the stage in St. Petersburg, the Severstal’s press centre reported. The new equipment will allow it to increase the scrap iron collection and processing by 150 thousand tons per year and save up to 20% from a car on the railway tariff.
Severstal-Vtorchermet will supply the main volume of scrap iron supplies from the stage in St. Petersburg to its key client – the Cherepovets metallurgic plant (which is also a part of the division Severstal Russian Steel), mainly by railway.

Mounting of frame cranes started at the building ground of Severstal-Balakovo graded plant

The mounting of three frame cranes for the transshipment and processing of metal scrap has started at the  building site of the Severstal-Balakovo graded plant.
The cranes are the largest aggregates of the mini plant. Their height will make up 28 metres. The span of each crane makes up 118.6 metres.

Severstal to intend to participate in implementation of the project “Power of Siberia”

The Severstal’s assets – the Izhorsk pipe plant and Block 5000 of CherMK’s rolling mill-3, located in St. Petersburg, plan to participate in the new Gazprom’s gas-transport project, called “Power of Siberia”.
The Izhorsk pipe plant, specialized in the production of large-diameter pipes from strip material, made by the Cherepovetsk metallurgic plant (the both assets belong to Severstal Russian Steel), has all necessary technological groundwork for the participation in such projects. At present, the technology of production of highly deformed pipes with special properties for the use in zones of active tectonic faults, crossing the location of the gas-transport system “Power of Siberia”, is designed on basis of the Izhorsk pipe plant with the participation of Gazprom’s specialists.

CherMK increases supplies for enterprises of the Vologda region by 19%

Last year, the Cherepovets metallurgical plant increased the supply of rolled metal and joint products to enterprises of the Vologda region by 19% as compared to the previous year. The total supply volume made up 2.65 million tons.

Severstal becomes one of the three most competitive steel-smelting companies in the world

The international research company World Steel Dynamics (WSD) has made a rating of the 35 most competitive steel-smelting companies in the world on results of 2012. Severstal, one of the largest world vertically integrated steel-smelting and mining companies, was the third in this rating, it was  ahead of such companies as Indian JSW Steel (the 4th place), Jaoanese Nippon Sumitomo (the 5th place), Brazilian Gerdau (the 6th place), American Nucor (the 7th place) and many others.

Severstal to build heat-treating machine to increase production of EHS steel

The Cherepovets metallurgical complex, one of the largest integrated steel plants in the world (Severstal Russian Steel Division) will put into operation a new heat-treating machine in 2013. The total value of the project will make up 246 million rubles.

The project is aimed at the increase of the production of mill-2800 thick plate out of EHS steel with new application properties for such branches of industry as shipbuilding, bridge building and the production of heavy duty machines. Read more »

Severstal increases supplies of special steel to shipbuilding industry 2 times

For the first 10 months of 2012, the Cherepovets metallurgic plant (CherMK), one of the largest integrated steel plants in the world (a part of the division Severstal Russian Steel) supplied special steel to enterprises of the shipbuilding industry  by 2 times more than in the same period of 2011.

Special ship steel (cold-resistant steel grades AK and AB) is used, mainly, for defense orders, particularly for the construction of submarines and supermarine war ships. Read more »

Severstal SMTs-Kolpino develops the strategy of the production of high added value products

Severstal SMTs-Kolpino started purchasing the equipment for production of high added value products.

“The new equipment will help to increase the efficiency of production and considerably widen the assortment of the blanks produced for such clients in machine-building industry as Kartex, KOMATSU and Caterpillar”, General Director of Severstal SMTs-Kolpino Alexander Sirotin said. Read more »

Raspadskaya JSC will supply coal to Hyundai Steel

Raspadskaya JSC, the Russian largest coking coal producer and the South Korean Hyundai Steel have signed a memorandum for long-term cooperation from 2013 for coal products supplies with gradual increase in annual production to 300,000 tons. The memorandum is one more step in the  development of export relations with large steel and coking coal producers, and the closure of long-term contracts for their products supplies. Read more »
