Gazprom: construction of LNG plant in Iliynskoye on Sakhalin is unreasonable

Rosneft, which intends to build a gas liquefaction plant on Sakhalin, but didn’t achieve a Gazprom’s permission to use the gas pipeline of the Sakhalin-2 project, can leave the island for the Khabarovsk region. The oil company explores the possibility of creating an LNG project in De-Kastri, where there is already the Sakhalin - Khabarovsk - Vladivostok gas pipeline. However, the parameters of the project are still unclear, and the key problem of the resource base for the new LNG plant is not yet resolved.

The decision of the consortium of companies Rosneft and ExxonMobil to build a new liquefied natural gas plant with capacity of 5 million tons per year on Sakhalin, and why Gazprom opposes the granting of spare in the Sakhalin-2’s pipeline were commented on by head of the Department of Project Management and head of the Department of East-Oriented Projects of Gazprom Victor Timoshilov.

 - This construction is unreasonable, there are more effective solutions - both for the state and investors, - said Victor Timoshilov.
