Slovakia to be a “fair broker” in Nord Stream-2
Slovakia as a future chairman of the EU will be a fair broker by the issues of realization of Nord Stream-2, though it opposes its realization, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, M. Laychak, said.
Slovakia will be the chairman of the EU Council of Minister from July 2016 until December 2016. “We don’t like this project, it is not a secret. We think this project contradicts the principles of the European energy policy and energy union, as it doesn’t increase the diversification but increases the dependence on one supplier. We can’t see the economic necessity of this project but we see the negative political consequences of this project”, he said.
According to him, “the legal position of the EU Commission is important now, it will become the basis for further discussions”, RIA Novosti reports.
“I can assure you that we will be a fair broker by this issue but not promote our national agenda”, the Minister said.
