Gazprom and Shell discuss extension of LNG production at Sakhalin-2

Gazprom and the Anglo-Dutch Shell have noted the promise of increasing LNG production in the framework of the Sakhalin-2 project, the press release of the Russian gas giant, published by results of the meeting of Gazprom’s CEO Alexei Miller and Shell’s CEO Ben van Bearden, reports.

"The participants of the meeting discussed issues of current and future bilateral cooperation, especially in the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the framework of the Sakhalin-2 project. The parties appreciated the collaboration and stressed promising of the increasing LNG production at the project," - the report says.

Earlier in September, the Shell’s Chairman in Russia, Olivier Lazar announced the intention of the company to continue to implement its projects in Russia, in spite of the sanctions imposed against the country. From August 1st, the EU and the United States banned the supply of equipment for deepwater exploration and production of oil in the Arctic and at offshore deposits in the Russian Federation. In September, the sanctions were tightened: it was prohibited even to provide services for such projects. At the same time, if the constraints of the EU concern the whole Russian oil and gas sector, the United States indicated specific recipients: Gazprom, Gazpromneft, Rosneft, Lukoil and Surgutneftegaz.
