61.4 billion rubles are planned to be invested into development of Baikal-Amur mainline and Trans-Siberian railway in 2014

The development of adjacent territories of the Baikal-Amur mainline (BAM), the assessment of prospective cargo base in the near future and the transport component in the development of new fields have been discussed at the international conference "Baikal-Amur Mainline: the geo-economics of rail transport and its role in the development of Siberia and the Far East".

"Today, considering the development of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, we consider not only the modernization of the railways. We understand that this is development of the northern territories of the Russian Federation, this is access to the new massive fields, and of course, we must consider it together with the development of seaports,"- presidential aide Igor Levitin stated.

As the participants of the conference noted, today the greatest rates of the freight traffic growth are recorded in the direction of ports of Vanino and Sovetskaya Gavan, where further increase in the rail traffic not less than 1.5 times is expected by 2020 through the active construction of port facilities. As a result of the implementation of plans for the development of mineral deposits in the Far East and Siberian federal districts, total freight traffic in some sections of BAM will increase 1.1-2.4 times in 2020 as compared with 2013.
