Liberal conditions of scrap metal export recoil upon Ukrainian metallurgists

Shortage of scrap on the Ukrainian market has led to the fall in metallurgists’ production. As the trade association Metallurgprom reported yesterday, in November minimal volumes of steel and rolled metal were produced (from the beginning of the year). The greatest decline in the production occurred at electrometallurgic enterprises that have had difficulties with raw materials from September. However, the steel production will recover in the future: the production fall at electrometallurgic enterprises will be compensated by growth of supplies to the American market, experts note.

Yesterday, the union of metallurgical enterprises Metallurgprom stated last month the Ukraine produced minimal year-to-date volumes of steel and rolled metal. Thus, if previously the monthly production of steel and rolled metal made up 2.7-2.8 million tons, in the last month the Ukraine produced 2.5 million tons. If previously the monthly output of rolled metal was 2.4 million tons, in the last month it decreased to 2 3 million tons. As a result, if in the first ten months the steel production grew by 3% and rolled metal by 1% as compared with the same period of the last year, in the first eleven months the steel output increased by only 1 %, and the rolled metal production was the same.
