Turkey and Gazprom, the geopolitics of gas pipelines

The Russian company Gazprom and Turkish company,the Botas Petroleum Pipeline Corporation have confirmed their intention to supply the first gas to Turkey through the new pipeline in December 2016. And from 2019 the supply of Russian gas to Europe will be carried out bypassing the Ukraine.

On the results of the last talks in Ankara between Gazprom’s CEO, Alexei Miller and the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Taner Yildiz, the Gazprom’s head stated: "We have agreed to organize the work in a way to arrive at the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the gas pipeline in the second quarter of this year, and to supply the first gas to Turkey in December 2016 ... We will completely use the capacity of the first branch of the gas pipeline, 15.75 billion cubic meters, for the Turkish market. Given the degree of readiness of the compressor station Russkaya and most of the offshore pipeline route, it is absolutely a real plan".
