First gas from Absheron deposit in Azerbaijan will be extracted in 2021
Total will be the first to receive a new generation unit for drilling at the Absheron deposit in Azerbaijan, first Vice-President of SOCAR, Kh. Yusifadze, said.
“We have made this decision as this deposit has been explored. Everything is ready for drilling there and this is the deposit where we will receive the first gas (among new deposits). That’s why we have decided to transfer the unit to Total. The drilling is likely to start in 2018. The first gas will be received in 2021. The volume of extracted gas will depend on the volume of drilled wells”, he said.
The works on the construction of the first drilling unit of new generation for SOCAR started in 2013. They are planned to be completed in late 2016. The new drilling unit is meant for the drilling of 8 thousand meter deep wells at the depth of the sea of 1 thousand meters.
