Rosneft to cut 25% of staff of its central office

As the Kommersant has got to know, Rosneft wants to carry out reductions in its central office to save costs. The company may dismiss 20-25% of its staff - about 1 thousand employees. A number of state-owned companies are also carrying out or are carrying out reductions, but their scale is more modest. Analysts believe that in the difficult economic situation highly-paid ex-employees of Rosneft will face difficulties in finding a new job.

Rosneft is going to start a program on the reduction of the staff of its central apparatus, sources that are close to the company told the Kommersant: this is the decision of the company’s president Igor Sechin, who found that "the company doesn’t need so many employees". Layoffs can concern 20-25% of managers or about 1 thousand people (according to the RAS data in the second quarter, the average number of Rosneft’s employees amounts to 4 thousand people; in 2013, the labour costs made up 16.1 billion rubles). Rosneft itself only says that it "is working on reduction of the costs, including by optimizing the number of the staff", but "it is not a question of mass redundancies".
