Oil extraction at Kashagan to be resumed in the autumn

​Oil extraction at the Kashagan deposit is planned to be renewed in the autumn 2016, CPC reports by the pipeline system of which is it planned to ship oil from the deposit.

The information upon the renewal of oil extraction was announced by the heads of the oil and gas sector  of Kazakhstan.

The Kashagan deposit is located in the northern part o the Kazakh sector of the Caspian.

Oil extraction at Kashagan started in September 2013. Prior to that the start of the deposit’s development was postponed a few times since 2005. In October 2013 the extraction was shut down due to the gas leakage at one of the route pipelines. The analysis held within a few months showed the presence of numerous micro-cracks in the pipeline appeared as a result of the influence of accompanying gas with high sulfur content on metal. The operator of the project NCOC confirmed the necessity of a full replacement of the gas and oil pipelines at the deposit, the total length of which makes up about 200 km.
