Japan wants to participate in shelf projects of Rosneft

Marubeni Corporation from Japan is negotiating with Rosneft on the participation in the shelf projects of the largest Russian oil company in the Magadan region.
The representatives of the regional Administration met with the Japanese party to discuss the possibility of participation of Marubeni in the projects on molybdenum, wolfram and rare-earth metals production. Moreover, the Japanese Corporation wants to take part in the development of hydrocarbon deposits at the Magadan shelf. Japan was informed about the investment possibilities of the region in the sphere of coal and brown coal production, peat and other mineral resources.
According to the head of the department for strategy and coordination in European and CIS countries of Marubeni Corporation, E. Miyazaki, Marubeni is negotiating with Rosneft on the possible Japan’s participation in hydrocarbon projects at the shelf of the Sea of Okhotsk. Mr. Miyazaki said that Japan will thoroughly get acquainted with the investment offers of the Russian party.
He said that these projects have good perspectives to provide oil and gas supply to the countries of Eastern Asia, taking into account their geographic closeness to the Magadan region.
According to Rosneft’s plan, the license issue for the right to develop the sites of the Magadan shelf will be over in September 2011.
