Experts: Gas supplies from Russia to Azerbajan should make the states politically closer

Last week, Russia started to supply gas to Azerbaijan - the average daily volume of the supplies reaches 6 million cubic meters. "Imports of Russian gas will meet the additional needs of Azerbaijan in this energy source in connection with the economic growth and increase in the domestic consumption," – Gazprom states.

Experts explain why the republic decided to buy additional "blue gold" from its northern neighbor, although it is known that Azerbaijan itself is very rich in both oil and gas. The best known are two gas fields of the republic - Shah Deniz and Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli.

Let’s recall that in late June, head of the Russian gas holding company Alexei Miller said that Azerbaijan made an order to Gazprom for several billion cubic meters per year. "Our Azerbaijani colleagues asked us to begin the deliveries of Russian gas to Azerbaijan as soon as possible," - then said Miller. "The Azerbaijan's economy grows, the domestic demand grows. We talk about the beginning of the deliveries on the basis of medium-term contract in the amount of several billion cubic meters of gas per year. The supplies could start before the end of this year,"- he said.
