Efforts for import substitution of oil and gas equipment for shelf made in Russia

Union of Oil and Gas Equipment Producers has prepared materials for the meeting of the State Duma on problems of creation of domestic equipment for the development of oil and gas projects on shelf.

From the history

Technologies and techniques for the development of the sea shelf in the Soviet Union actively developed.
In 1970, in order to explore offshore oil and gas fields the production of jack-up rigs was started. Several dozen leading companies in various industries were attracted to create the new equipment for the assembly of jack-up rigs for the purpose of import substitution, including Uralmash (a complex of drilling equipment), the plant Krasnoye Sormovo (sections of pillars), the plant Bolshevik (hydraulic equipment of support elevating system), Central Research Institute Prometheus (special steels), Avrora (integrated automation systems) and others. Ten jack-up rigs were built, fully staffed with domestic equipment.
In 80-ies, 7 semi-submersible drilling units (PPBU) of Shelf type were built in the USSR. The leading rig was equipped with a foreign set of equipment, including subsea wellhead complex, equipment of anchor positioning system, rig position control system, deep-sea diving complex, but serial PPBU were equipped with domestic equipment. More than a hundred different companies were attracted to building of equipment to complete the rigs: Uralmash (drilling equipment), Barricady (complex of underwater wellhead), the plant Krasny Molot (cementing equipment), Proletarian plant (gibbet cranes), the plant Fregat (set of anchor winches), VNIIElektroprivod (integrated electric system) and many others.
