Metallurgical groups are about to buy over 4 million tons of coal at state mines

Ore-mining and metallurgical companies and state-run mines of the Ukraine have agreed on coking coal purchase volume before the end of 2013, CEO of “Ukrcoke” A.Starovoyt said, Interfax-Ukraine writes.

The Ukraine increased coal production by 15 million tons.

“They have reached a compromise on coking coal purchase volume in 2013 at a meeting of the vice-Prime Minister Y.Boiko with the participation of the Ministries and holdings in order not to introduce quotas on an import of these goods. The coal volume, which is to be purchased, is distributed among the holdings “Metinvest”, “ISD”, “ArcelorMittal”, “Evraz”,” he said.

A.Starovoyt said ore mining and smelting holdings are about to buy 4.050 million tons of coking coal at state-run mines. He has noted price parameters on the coal, ready for sale, were not discussed at the meeting.

Earlier they talked about an introduction of quotas on an import of this product due to a proficit of coking coal on the domestic market of the Ukraine.

The Ukraine usually imports about 9 million tons of coking coal concentrate, mainly from Russia. At present the share of import coal makes up 37.5% of the total volume of coking coal. The previous years the share of import in a total volume of coal supply to the Ukrainian coke-chemical plants made up 36-40%.

According to information of “Ukrcoke”, coke-chemical plants of the Ukraine reduced 6% humidity metcoke production by 8.2% to 2.893 million tons against the same period last year. In February, coke production in the Ukraine made up 1.370 million tons. According to A.Starovoyt, domestic coke-chemical plants meet the demand for coke of metallurgical enterprises.

In 2012 Ukrainian coke chemical plants reduced metcoke production of 6% humidity by 3.3% to 18.928 million tons against the same period in 2011.
