Gazpromneft expects icebreakers for Novoportovskoye deposit in 2017

Two icebreakers for the Novoportovskoye deposit will be built by 2017, according to the expectations of Gazpromneft. First deputy head of “Gazpromneft” V.Yakovlev said.

According to him, the company keeps the development of the infrastructure of the Russian Arctic region. The start-up of two new Russian icebreakers in 2017 will be an important step to provide year-round transport accessibility to the northernmost districts of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous area, he said.

The icebreakers for the Novoportovskoye deposit passed model ice trials. Conceptual design of the vessel was made by Finnish Aker Arctic Technology. The “Vyborg shipbuilding yard” will construct the icebreakers on order of Gazpromneft’s subsidiary “Gazprom neft Novy Port”.
