Fire on oil platform Guneshli can’t be put out for the third consecutive day

The fire that started at the platform №10 at the offshore field Guneshli, owned by Azerbaijan, on December 4, still continues. Bad weather and strong winds don’t allow emergency workers to deal with the fire.

The fire became known on Friday in the evening; it is reported that the cause of the fire was the failure of the gas line on the platform, located in the Caspian Sea. Forces were sent to evacuate personnel who were on the platform: they were prevented by the strong wind and 10-meter waves, which didn’t allow ships to come to the platform.
