Club of Gazprom’s friends to construct Turkish Stream in Europe

A new coalition of Gazprom’s allies is being formed in Europe. After the failure of the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline under the pressure of the EU and the USA, potential participants of alternative pipeline Turkish Stream - Greece, Serbia, Macedonia, Hungary and Turkey - have decided to consolidate the position in advance. According to the Kommersant’s information, Austria can join them. No one large project of Gazprom has began in such a purely political format until now. The situation is aggravated by the fact that all members of the new "club" somehow try to pursue an independent policy from Brussels in other issues too. But the European Commission already prepares mechanisms to block unwanted gas projects for its part.

Yesterday, the meeting of Foreign Ministers of Greece, Serbia, Macedonia, Hungary and Turkey took place in Budapest; during the meeting participation of these countries in the Gazprom’s project Turkish Stream was discussed. The Foreign Ministry of Hungary specified to the Kommersant that a representative of the European Commission took part in the meeting as an observer. By results of the meeting, a declaration on energy cooperation in the creation of "economically viable ways to diversify routes and sources" to transport natural gas from Turkey to Europe was signed.
