V. Bogoyavlensky: hydrocarbons extraction in the Arctic not to cover the fall on the surface

​Hydrocarbons extraction at the shelf of the Arctic in the coming 10-15 years will not be able to cover the extraction fall at the existing deposits on the shore, a member of the Russian Academy of Science, V. Bogoyavlensky said.

According to him, the extraction forecast is corrected due to the postponing of periods of the deposits’ development, to 13 mln tons of oil and condensate in 2030 from 18 mln tons expected by the optimistic forecast of 2013.

The events of the past 2 years introduced serious corrections into this plan. The development of the Dolginsky deposit was postponed for 2031 and in this connection the current optimistic schedule looks differently. So the level of liquid hydrocarbons extraction will not exceed 13 mln tons in 2030.

According to Mr. Bogoyavlensky, the delay in the realization of the projects at the Arctic shelf is due to the sanctions of the west that ban to provide Russia with the drilling technologies and extraction of hydrocarbons at the shelf.
