The Ukraine expects independence from Russian gas in 5 years.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk promised that in five years the Ukraine would no longer be dependent on Russian gas.
In an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel 1+1, aired on Sunday, he stated that the Ukraine possesses about 16 billion cubic meters of gas. According to him, he purchase of gas from the EU through Poland, Hungary and Slovakia has significantly increased and because of this the purchases from Russia decreased. As the Prime Minister recalled, the Ukraine has recently launched the reverse gas supply through Slovakia - 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
"It is still far from a victory. Victory means when we will not buy Russian gas at all. This is not a year or two, but in five-year term we can say that the Ukraine will diversify the gas supplies and cease to depend on the Russian Federation", - Yatsenyuk stated, the excerpts from his interview are stored at the Ukraine Cabinet of Ministers’ website.
