In 2016, for the first time Russia will lose its leading position in the supply of gas to Lithuania. The main importer of gas to the Baltic state will be Norway, reports the Deutsche Welle. As the Minister of Energy of Lithuania Rokas Masiulis said, the market share of the Norwegian company Statoil will exceed 50%.
The increase in the gas supplies from Norway became possible thanks to the signing of two new contracts between Statoil and the Lithuanian side. According to Masiulis, the new agreements are "clear proof of the fact that Gazprom has real competitors on the market".
