The Ukraine wants to push Russia off gas transit

The Ukraine can use sanctions against Gazprom for a radical revision of a mechanism of Russian gas supplies to Europe. Kiev believes that in case of a ban on Gazprom to transport gas to Europe via the Ukraine, European companies will be engaged in the transit. As a result, Gazprom will have to give gas at the border with the Ukraine, and Kiev will be able to organize virtual reverse supplies. The consumers in the EU and experts are sceptical about the Ukrainian idea.

Naftogaz Ukrainy offers European gas companies to conclude contracts for the transit of gas from the Russian border with the operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system in the case of the imposition of sanctions against Gazprom. Such statement was published on the website of Naftogaz yesterday, this stand was also confirmed by a source of the Kommersant in the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy. Last week, the Ukrainian Government submitted a draft law to the Parliament, which gives the National Security Council and Defense the right to fully or partly terminate the transit of Russian gas through the Ukraine (the project will be considered today). From mid-June, Gazprom doesn’t supply gas to Kiev because of non-payment of debts, but continues the transit to Europe.
