Moscow wants to hear Brussels’ attitude on Nord Stream-2

In August, Moscow for the first time can discuss the supply of Russian gas to southern Europe via Trans-Baltic gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 with the European Commission. This scheme will allow the company to replace the transit through the Ukraine, but this requires the expansion of the intra-European gas pipelines. This can be done without violating the requirements of the Third Energy Package of the EU, but, according to experts, theoretically Brussels can still stop the project.

In August, the Russian Ministry of Energy may for the first time officially discuss the expansion of the gas transmission network in Central Europe for the supply of Russian gas to the south of the European Union through the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline with the EC, the Deputy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky told the Reuters. "The possibility to technically supply gas to southern Europe can be created, but it depends on the willingness of our partners," - he said. The EC stated to the Kommersant that the bilateral meeting in August would be indeed possible, and its main theme should be to ensure the gas supplies to the Ukraine, and it wasn’t planned to discuss Nord Stream-2 during it.
