Arctic oil and gas reserves are comparable to the resources of Western Siberia

The scientific advisor of the Oil and Gas Geology and Geophysics Institute of RAS, academician, A. Kontorovich, said that the volume of Arctic oil and gas resources might make up 100 bln tons.

He compared the Arctic reserves with the volume of natural fuel in the Western Siberia. He specified that it is necessary to determine the ratio of oil and gas in the discovered layers.

Scientists think that 80% of fuel reserves of the Arctic may be gas. Kontorovich warned that this volume might change. To make up the exact map of the regional reserves it is necessary to collect the data of seismic exploration of the Russian companies.

Kontorovich said that now the geological exploration of the Pechora and Barents Seas is held. The most tremendous oil and gas reserves might be located there. Pronedra reported that oil volumes in the Arctic might make up 106 bln tons.
