Western contractors struggle for the right to build Nord Stream-2

In January, Gazprom will choose who will build the offshore section of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea. According to the Kommersant’s information, the French Technip, Swiss Allseas, Dutch Royal IHC and Italian Saipem claim for the contract for $4 billion. The most logical candidate looks Saipem, familiar to Gazprom for other projects and built the first two lines of Nord Stream through the Baltic Sea. But Italy is not a member of the project that may negatively affect the chances of Saipem.

As the Kommersant has got to know, four western contractors claim for the Gazprom’s tender on the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea. These are Italian Saipem, French Technip, Swiss Allseas and Dutch Royal IHC. The contract price for the construction of two lines with the total length of 2.5 thousand km, according to the Kommersant’s sources, will exceed $4 billion. The results of the tender, announced at the end of last year, are planed to be announced in January.
