Bloomberg: oil extraction in Iran reached the pre-sanctions level

In April the level of oil extraction in Iran was at the same level as prior to the introduction of economic sanctions, Bloomberg reports referring to the International Energy Agency.

This extraction rate made up 3.56 mln barrels a day last month – this is the maximum since November 2011. The daily oil export from Iran in April made up 2 mln barrels.

The largest oil importer from Iran was China which imported 800 thousand barrels a day.

The sanctions on the Iranian oil and gas sector were imposed in 2012, they were cancelled in early 2016 – with the start of realization of the nuclear agreement by Iran.

In the first part of May Iran announced it had reached the target level of extraction and even exceeded it, the head for PR of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), M. Kamsari, said.

The Government of Iran aimed at oil production of 4 mln barrels a day. This is about the same level as in the pre-sanctions times. According to OPEC, Iran already extracts about 4.2 mln barrels a day.
