Oil companies to eliminate accumulated ecological harm in Khanty Mansi Autonomous Area by 2020 – Governor

Oil companies will eliminate the accumulated for many years ecological hard in the Khanty Mansi Autonomous Area by 2020, the Governor of the Khanty Mansi Autonomous Area, N. Komarova, said.

The largest work in this direction is held by Rosneft and Lukoil now. On the results of 2015 Surgutneftegas along with another 15 companies reached the current pollution level having fully got rid of the past debts. In 2016 another 9 companies are to join them. In general the companies undertook to complete this work by 2020, she said.

According to the Governor, by 2020 the entire accumulated ecological harm will be eliminated. Simultaneously the work on the minimization of the current harm, reduction of the level of industrial burden on the environment is held, she added.

The Khanty Mansi Autonomous Area is one of the largest industrial regions of Russia, about 38% of its territory is covered with license sites. There are over 150 thousand wells, 102 thousand km of pipelines in the region.
