The Ukraine ready to offer its underground gas storages for “Turkish gas”
The Ukraine is ready to offer its underground gas storages for the storage of “Turkish gas” aiming for its further pumping to Europe, the Minister of Energy and Coal, I. Nasalik, said.
The Ukraine considers as a part of the modernization of the energy sector an opportunity of using the Ukrainian underground gas storages by foreign companies, including Turkish, for the storage of gas aiming for its further pumping to the EU, Mr. Nasalik said.
But he didn’t explain what he meant by the “gas of Turkish companies pumped to Europe”. It is evident that it is about the future supplies by the Southern Gas Corridor. However, it is not clear how the Ukraine intends to receive this gas for storage.
The Southern Gas Corridor goes directly to the EU via the Turkey-Greece border and no offsets in the direction of the Ukraine are planned. Even if one imagines that Kiev receives this gas by the system of the East European pipelines and interconnectors, why does Turkey need t store it at the Ukrainian underground gas storages?
