Barroso: the Ukraine must use rules of the EU Third Energy Package

The Ukraine must start to use standards of the EU Third Energy Package that will simplify work on the reconstruction of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

This statement was made by European Commission’s President, Jose Manuel Barroso on the results of the joint meeting with representatives of the Kiev authorities on May, 13th.

"European energy companies have already received an invitation for their deeper involvement in the work of the Ukrainian energy system, including the processes of its modernization. These efforts will be very beneficial not only for the Ukraine, but also for gas supplier countries," - said Barroso.

In addition, he reminded of the necessity to fill the Ukrainian gas storage facilities on the threshold of the next winter, because they store reserves for additional supplies of Russian gas to the European market.
