Azerbaijani SOCAR holds negotiations on gas purchase with Gazprom and Iran

State-owned oil and gas company of Azerbaijan SOCAR holds negotiations with Gazprom and Iran to acquire 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev reported today.

"We still have interest in the purchase of Russian gas. We passed our proposal to Gazprom. We need gas for injection into the reservoirs at the block of fields Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli in order to maintain the stable oil production. Secondly, we plan to inject additional volumes of gas in our underground storage facilities in order to make maximum use of them. The capacity of the storage facilities is about 5 billion cubic meters, and we want to test the maximum capacity as a pilot project,"- said Abdullayev.
