The main growth of hydrocarbon reserves to occur in Russian water areas in the future

The main growth of hydrocarbon reserves will take place in Russian water areas in the future, the Russian Academy of Sciences’ corresponding member Vasily Bogoyavlensky stated at the SPE conference and exhibition on the development of fields in abnormal operating conditions and in the Arctic. Delivering the report “Modern conditions, perspectives and problems of the marine oil and gas industry development in Russian and other countries of the Arctic region”, he told that according to analysis of reserves at all fields of the Arctic shelf, 43% of discovered fields are located in the Russian water area of the Barents and Kara Seas. “And only 91.3% have been discovered, cause the Russian shelf is studied insufficiently,” – the corresponding member noted.
