Naftogas: Gazprom’s advance payment for gas transit via Ukraine is over, it is not allowed to pay for transit by the gas debt

The Ukraine has filed a claim to the Stockholm Arbitration Court upon the reconsideration of the agreement with Gazprom.

In September Gazprom’s advance payment for gas transit via the Ukraine was over and starting from October Gazprom is to pay for it, the director for business development of Naftogas, Y. Vitrenko said. “They can’t control these funds and consider them as a part of some debts”, he said. A representative of Gazprom didn’t answer.

The chairman of Gazprom, A. Miller in late August wrote a letter to the President Putin asking to make amendments to the Russian law on currency control and currency regulation so as Gazprom could consider the debt of Naftogas for gas as a part of the transit payment via the Ukraine. This idea was supported by the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economic Development, Rosfinnadzor, Central Bank.
