European Commission decides fate of Nord Stream-2

On Tuesday, the European Commission will present a new strategy for energy security. In particular, "regulation on security of gas supply will be revised in order to improve the endurance of the EU at the termination of gas supply". Under the new strategy European officials will also decide the fate of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which has already provoked loud protests in Eastern Europe.

Today, the EU imports 53% of energy, consumed by it. And some of the countries of the Union depend on a single main supplier of gas. "Diversification of the sources and suppliers is the main way to improve our energy security. Exploration of new production regions and the fuel supply, the study of new technologies, the development of local resources and the improvement of infrastructures, giving access to new sources of the supply, - all these are elements, which will help to the diversification and the more robust European energy security, "- Brussels says. The new strategy of the Energy Union must ensure the transition to a low carbon, secure and competitive economy.
