Minister of Energy of Georgia discusses an opportunity of gas import from Iran

​Minister of Energy of Georgia, K. Kaladze, discusses in Iran an opportunity of Iranian gas import to Georgia. Mr. Kaladze has held a meeting with the PM of Iran and representatives of business circles. The Minister said that the issues of cooperation of Georgia and Iran in the energy sphere are being discussed. We speak about a possibility of import of Iranian gas and how competitive its price will be, Mr. Kaladze said.

After the cancellation of sanctions from Iran, Georgia is to maximally use the resources of this country and do everything possible to run new interesting projects.

88% of gas supply to the republic is held from Azerbaijan, 12% - from Russia which the country receives as payment for the transit of the Russian gas to Armenia via Georgia.

On February 12th the PM, G. Kvirikashvili, said that Iran is ready to consider cooperation with Georgia in the energy sector and that will contribute to the diversification of natural resources for the EU. The cooperation with Iran will make the development of the region and EU dynamic, and Georgia can play a function of the connecting element between Europe and Asia.
