Tajikistan expects the launch of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway
Tajikistan is interested in cargo transportation by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Ambassador of Tajikistan in Baku, Z. Saidov, said.
“We want to use the transit capacities of Azerbaijan. Moreover Azerbaijan has large ports, Turkmenistan and Turkmenbashi also have good ports. This is a very good impetus for us”, the Ambassador said.
He also said that the interest of Tajikistan in the transportation of its cargo by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars was mentioned at the previously held 2-party meetings at the top level.
Mr. Saidov reminded that Tajikistan now transports about 1 mln tons of cargo annually via Azerbaijan. This is first of all clay and aluminium produced at the Tajik aluminium plant. The launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway makes cargo transportation from Tajikistan more comfortable and quicker.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is constructed on the basis of the Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey intergovernmental agreement.
