Wintershall expects the answer of the EU Commission and Germany about Opal gas pipeline

Wintershall expects to have the answer of the EU Commission and regulator of Germany upon the Opal gas pipeline until the end of the year, the head of the company, M. Meren, said.

Opal is quite a sad story. Wintershall invested into Germany, pipeline, and finally doesn’t have an opportunity to use it. I hope we will settle this issue by means of negotiations with the EU Commission and regulator, he said.

Opal receives the Russian gas shipped to Europe by the Nord Stream but due to the restrictions of the European regulators the pipe is loaded only by half. Gazprom has been trying to have a full access t the capacities of the pipes for many years already, however, the EU Commission keeps rejecting it.
