New plants will appear at Kola GMK

Norilsk Nickel is going to invest 9.862 billion rubles to the upgrading of the nickel capacities at Kola GMK before 2017, this was the decision of its investment commission. Under the new strategy of Norilsk Nickel agreed by the Board of Directors, the outdated and ecologically unsafe production will be gradually removed because of the introduction of new technologies and the upgrading of the plant.

In particular, the project for the transition of the electrolysis shop to electric nickel  extraction technology using the use of the method of chlorine dissolution of nickel powder in the pipe furnaces is meant for the period up to 2017. Implementing the project, the awaited electrolytic nickel yield will be 120,000 tons a year. The company is sure that it will help to reduce metal losses during production and  gain a maximum level of revenue from ready products sales.
