Azeri gas is cheaper than Russian for Turkey

​The Azeri gas costs cheaper for Turkey than Russian, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, T. Yildyz said.

Russia is the main gas supplier to Turkey. Last year 26.7 bln cubic m of the Russian gas was shipped to Turkey. In 2015 it is planned to increase the gas import volumes to Turkey from Russia to 30 bln cubic m.

The gas price are not officially announced but according to the mass media of Turkey, the latter purchases the Russian gas at $425/thousand cubic m, Iranian – at $490/thousand cubic m, Azeri gas shipped by the South-Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) at $335/thousand cubic m.

Turkey has contracts with Russia for the supply of 20 bln cubic m of gas a year, with Iran – for 10 bln cubic m, with Azerbaijan- for 6.6 bln cubic m.

When Russia announced that Turkey would be granted a 6% discount for the Russian gas shipped from Jan 2015, Ankara demanded to increase this discount.
