Dependence of China on foreign oil supply may go up to 66% by 2020

The dependence of China on the supply of oil from abroad may go up to 66% by 2020. The deputy director of the Institute for International Relations under the State Council of the PRC said about it.

According to him the government is to take immediate actions to reduce this figure. “In 2013 China imported 280 million tons of oil. It made up 58.1% of the total volume of oil consumption by China last year. According to our calculations, it will go up to 66% by 2020,” he said. Such a high level of dependence, he says, may carry a threat for the economic development of the country and requires careful attention on the part of the government of China.
