Gazprom doesn’t plan to start drilling in the Arctic in 2015

​Gazprom plans to focus on seismic exploration works at the Arctic shelf in 2015, it will not start drilling.

Seismic exploration works will cover about 10 thousand sq km.

Gazprom still thinks private companies should not be allowed to work at the shelf, deputy chairman Mr. Markelov said:

“The Arctic shelf is very fragile, so only experienced companies should work there. Gazprom is one of the few companies in Russia working at the shelf we realize a project in the Sea of Okhotsk with the help of modern methods and we are at the peak of scientific-technical security of the shelf. Gazprom has a large fleet to work at the shelf, about 6 platforms. In 2014 the first lot of oil from Prirazlomnaya was loaded and today Gazprom Neft successfully works there”, Mr. Markelov said.
