Ural thermal power plants are to pricey for Siberia.

FAS found the cause of the jump in energy cost.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service drew attention to the sharp rise in wholesale electricity prices in Siberia and demands to change the rules for choosing a working generation. The cause of growth, according to FAS, is that since last August in Siberia it started tracking energy flows from the Urals, and in some cases, instead of cheap hydroelectric the more expensive thermal power plants were selected. As a result, in February the wholesale energy cost in Siberia was one and a half times higher than last year. But the rise in prices could be affected by other factors - such as abnormal water scarcity.
