Tusk: gas purchases with be under the new EU rules.
The head of the European Council, Donald Tusk stated that in the near future the European Commission would provide a bill ensuring the mechanism of contracts for gas imports into the European Union to the EU legislation.
The purpose of operational decision on this bill is reduction of dependence on Russian gas. Most of the contracts that "Gazprom" currently concludes with European companies are long term, they are concluded for 20 years or more. This, according to Tusk, "may be unhealthy for our security and for our market". Even before the entry into his office, he stated: "We need to understand, and I think we are close to understanding that Russia is not our strategic partner. Russia is our strategic problem". For over a year his position has not changed.
