Kazakh mining and metallurgical companies oppose sales tax

Republican Association of Mining and Metallurgical Enterprises of Kazakhstan has opposed the introduction of sales tax in the industry and proposed instead of this to improve the administration of the value added tax, executive director of the Assosiation Nikolai Radostovets said on Wednesday.

"We now see that no matter how the Ministry of Investment and Development and the Ministry of Economy try to combine their positions on taxation of subsoil use, many questions remain open. For example, I believe that the sales tax, which is being actively discussed in Kazakhstan, is less efficient, less applicable for subsoil use, for development of investment in this area, and less needed for future subsoil users than the existing VAT collection system," - said Radostovets at the forum MINEX Central Asia.
