US Department of Interior has announced that at least in the next year and a half, the Arctic will again be closed to energy companies. The Department won’t issue new licenses for operation in the area and renew old ones. The Departmen explains its actions with "inappropriateness" of this, referring to the decision of Royal Dutch Shell to withdraw from the region.
On Friday, the US Department of Interior announced the stop of sale of new licenses for geological exploration and production in the Arctic and the refusal to renew the already issued licenses.
