Turkey intends to become one of European “gas storages”

​The underground gas storage near the Tuz lake (Turkey) will be fully put into operation in 2019. By the present moment 65% of works are completed. This is the 2nd underground storage in Turkey. Previously the country had only one storage Siliviri with the capacity of 2.6 bln cubic m.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the first part of the project for 6 reservoirs will be put into operation in 2017. In total the storage will have 12 reservoirs with the total capacity of 1 bln cubic m of gas. The growth of the capacity of the underground storage is planned in the coming after the launch years. After the launch of the object, it will annually pump 40 mln cubic m of gas to the gas network of Turkey.

The project is financed by the international loan for $325 mln which was signed in 2006 between the World Bank and BOTAS. In 2014 the additional agreement on the expansion of the credit line for another $400 mln was signed.
