Sergei Pikunov: Changes in environmental regulation are indispensable to life

The conference "Industrial safety: Utilization of APG, oil and drilling mud, the elimination of oil pollution" has turned into an "election meeting" where oil companies reported their achievements. This opinion was expressed to the agency Samotlor- Express by the Chief of the Service for Control and Supervision in the environment sphere, wildlife and forest relations in the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district-Yugra Sergei Pikunov.

- Sergey Vladimirovich, you were opposed to many speakers at the conference. What caused your protest?
- Organizers put up really relevant topics for the region for public discussion - drilling waste and accidental pollution. But I would like to know at the conference, how oil companies are going to cope these problems. That didn’t happen. We received an "election meeting": the oil companies told how they are doing well and what successes they have achieved. But nothing has changed fundamentally! Three thousand accidents per year in the district - this is our reality. And just a kind of orgy with drilling waste.

- But in this case, scientists propose a concrete and tested solution – the forest restoration ...
- I don’t understand this term - "forest restoration ". There is a term “reclamation", including reclamation of sludge pits. It is carried out in three stages: technical, biological and the final stage is phytoremediation, when annual and perennial plants are sowed in the clean soil.
