The Russian Federation, the Ukraine and the EU to hold a trilateral meeting to determine the temporal conditions of gas supplies to the Ukraine.

The trilateral meeting between Russia, the Ukraine and the EU on gas will be held in the Belgian capital today. It will be attended by Alexander Novak, the Russian Energy Minister, Yuriy Prodan, the Minister of Energy and the Coal Industry of the Ukraine and Guenther Oettinger, the EU Energy Commissioner.
The negotiators must determine the conditions of Russian gas supplies to the Ukraine within a temporary agreement. The absence of such an agreement calls into question the stability of Russian gas supplies to the EU countries, which are transited through the Ukraine, due to the high probability of gas extraction in winter to meet the domestic needs of the Ukraine.
The Ukraine has already challenged the provisions of the current contract with "Gazprom" in the Stockholm arbitration court. The counterclaim of "Gazprom" also challenges the failure of a number of provisions of the contract. Because of the trial a temporary solution is necessary to continue the deliveries that will keep the position of the parties in court. The relations between the Ukraine and Russia in the gas sector are governed by a contract for the supply of gas and the contract on the transit dated 2009.
