Egypt asks Russia to help with gas supplies to Europe and invites Russian companies to its fields

Egypt has asked Russia to organize swap-supplies of gas to Europe and to help to fulfill Egyptian’s obligations to European consumers. Besides, Cairo invites Russian gas and oil workers, in particular Gazprom, Novatek, Gazpromneft an Lukoil, to participate in the development of Egyptian oil and gas fields, including offshore ones.

Negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi took place in Sochi last Friday. The parties discussed - among others - issues of cooperation of two countries in the power engineering. Visit of Egyptian Minister of Oil and Natural Resources Osama Kamal, who was in Russia in the previous week, anticipated these negotiations.
