Gazprom gives appearance of settlements in rubles

Gazprom is going to provide possibility to transfer a part of the payments in rubles in new export contracts. According to sources of the Kommersant, in the first place the monopoly wants to show the progress on this issue to the Presidential Commission on the fuel and energy sector, as well as to have insurance in case of introduction of new sanctions. The transfer of the payments for the export of Russian oil and gas in rubles was actively discussed during the last 1.5 years, but, as the Kommersant’s interlocutors note, real progress is small.

Gazprom has submitted the issue on inclusion of the possibility of ruble settlements in the new export contracts and the establishment of a reasonable minimum proportion of such settlements to Board of Directors on September 28. Gazprom declined to comment. According to the Kommersant’s information, the company only wants the contracts to provide for such an option in any case. The minimum share of the ruble settlements won’t exceed 10%.
