Budapest is interested in gas loading into underground storages by Gazprom

​Budapest is interested in Gazprom’s gas loading into the underground storages of Hungary, the Minister of external economic relations and foreign affairs of Hungary, P. Siyarto, said.

Gazprom’s gas loading into our underground storages is of strategic importance for us. I ask you to support our idea and request, he said at the meeting with the first deputy chairman of the Council of Federation, N. Fedorov.

75% of gas supplies in Hungary are held from Russia. Siyarto told journalists that Gazprom is an important partner for Hungary.

In February Gazprom was reported to have agreed to increase the volumes of gas stored at the Hungarian underground storages. The PM of Hungary, V. Orban said that the Government intends to have 3 bln cubic m of the Russian gas at its underground storages.

In June the head of the department for transportation, underground storage and gas use of Gazprom, O. Aksyutin, said that the company studied the infrastructure of underground gas storages in Europe to provide the operation of Turkish Stream. In the South-Eastern Europe in this connection the Hungarian underground storages were considered.
