EU Energy Union: The rules of the game

Rules of the game in the European energy security amuse the business department browser Yuriy Barsukov.

Creation of a European energy union (see "the Kommersant" dated March 23) led the EU authorities to resort to rhetoric, which for the past five years belonged mainly to "Gazprom". The Russian monopoly urged consumers not to abandon the long-term contracts and the reliability they provide, and stressed that the expensive Russian gas "provides energy security of Europe". Europeans responded that there is already plenty of gas in the market, the consumption falls, and security of supply "of course, is very important, but needs to compete with coal and green energy" and, therefore, the main thing that they are interested in is the price of gas.
